This February, we celebrated Black History Month by having our students work with extraordinary artistic leaders in contemporary dance and theater.
Our elementary school students had a vocal workshop with Tony Award-winning James Monroe Iglehart, who recently starred as Louis Armstrong in Broadway’s “A Wonderful World,” alongside our very own Artistic Director, Dionne Figgins (as Daisy Parker). As part of the Parsons Playscape workshop, Mr. Iglehart prepared students for their performance of “About Sprouts” this May, where they will sing Armstrong’s iconic “What a Wonderful World.” Our 6th graders participated in a dynamic West African dance workshop with Karisma Jay, Artistic Director of Brooklyn’s AbunDance Academy of the Arts. 7th graders had a masterclass with Ronald K. Brown and Arcell Cabuag, the Artistic and Associate Artistic Directors of Ronald K. Brown/EVIDENCE Dance Company. 8th graders had the privilege of working with Cat Foster, Principal Dancer with Camille A. Brown & Dancers..
